You see that face...that cute, innocent face. My dearest Jayden has learned the art of lying. The trouble is, he's not good at it. =) We've had a number of incidents the past few months where we've caught him in a lie and he can't seem to give us an explanation. The situation is actually comical in a way because he really doesn't have any reason to lie, he just does for the fun of it. Although, it is not fun when he gets caught. His lies range from little things like whether or not he likes a certain food to breaking pencils in class and hiding them from his teacher. Nothing horrible, but it begs the question, why?
Skyler and I have decided instead of getting mad about it we are going to take a different approach. We've had a lot of family home evenings, and scripture study geared toward the Plan of Salvation, The Tree of Life, The Garden of Eden... that sort of thing so we've been talking a lot about choices and consequences. We've decided that every time we know he is lying we will ask him the question, "Who's path are you following?" It seems to get him back on track, but honestly, how do you teach a kid who knows it it wrong and does it anyway, to stop? He does it so often it is almost as if he doesn't realize he's doing it, like he's in some alternate reality in his head. I think that is what is so frustrating...he has no cause, no reason, no reward.
Every child presents challenges, each challenge greater than the last. We love him, we enjoy him, and we wouldn't trade him for anything, but man he baffles us sometimes.
